Monday, November 14th, 2011 Have you ever wondered how you can identify the model year of a Suzuki motorcycle or ATV? Suzuki assigns a year letter code to the end of each model name.
Perhaps you’ve noticed this letter designation in your Suzuki repair manual or owners manual but weren’t sure what it meant. Here’s how it works: If you own a 1999 Suzuki TL1000S X or a TL1000R X or a GSXR600X etc the X at the end tells us it was sold as a 1999 model year. The year of manufacture is not necessarily the model year. Usually around October the new models are released, so it’s possible to have a built date of say 10/98 and have an X (1999) model even though it was built in 1998. You might notice that “I”, “O”, “Q”, “U” and “Z” are missing from the codes. The letters I, O & U cannot be used in a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at all. The digit / number 0 and letters U & Z are not used in the year model code.
There is more VIN information here on a page.

The VIN begins with the prefix 'JKA', 'JKB', 'JK1', 'JSA', or 'LM4'. On all motorcycles it is stamped on the side of the steering head. On street-legal motorcycles, the VIN also appears on the Safety Certification Label affixed to, or near, the side of the steering head. On ATV's it is stamped on the lower frame tube, to the left of the engine. On MULEテつョ utility vehicles, look for a plate welded to the frame at or near the front of the vehicle. On some MULE models, the VIN is located on the frame, just below the front of the seat. The above is a quote from the Kawasaki website.
But, I found the VIN numbers on both of my Kawasaki ATV's on the lowest frame tube parallel to the ground. The Prairie 700 had the number on the left under the front differential. The Bayou 250 had the number directly under the engine on the left side. The numbers are stamped into the frame and not that obvious, but are easy to see once you know where to look.

I was looking online and decided to list out some websites that sell used ATVs. If you know of any additional websites or sources to look for or buy used ATVs, please post as a comment in this topic. EBay Motors - usually has a good selection of four wheelers, ATVs, and Side by Sides and offer seller protections Craigslist - usually has more local ATVs, but be careful as there are no seller protections ATV Trader - has over 130k ATVs listed by private sellers ATVSoup.com - new and used ATVs for sale WantAdDigest - Shows local listings of ATVs for sale ATV.com - List new and used ATVs for sale When buying a used ATV, make sure you do your research and find out the book value of the ATV, look over the condition of the ATV, and as for verification of ownership.
Be careful who you buy from and get the ATV checked out by a professional dealer or repair shop if you are baying a high price. Watch our for VIN numbers that are scraped off, this is usually a sign that the ATV was stolen. Was using the quad the other day to shuttle wood from my pickup to my wood pile. When the job was done I turned off the Quad and heard a bit of a racket from the front end. When I got down underneath the sound seemed to be coming from the fan housing.
Fan was moving in spurts and not quickly. Much like a computer case fan that's had it's day. Temp sensor is ok, as the fan tries to activate fan is getting some voltage as it is attempting to spin. When I first bought it used I tested the fan direct to battery and it was fine.
The fan was working ok even not direct wired as I went on a couple of rides and when stopped and idling the fan did run Seems to be free spinning with my finger read up in the manual and they require me to drop the rad. Now I'm not opposed to that as the rad has some damaged areas I want to try and straighten out.
But if I can get the fan working without, I can leave the rad as it is until next year. Fan assembly is about 300 bills, any work arounds or alternatives? I even thought large computer case brushless fan.
Smaller ones are about $7 larger ones better quality probably far below the 300. They run standard 12v DC.
Anything I should be doing before dropping the rad. Other than check for obstructions even though it seems to spin, and trying to hardwire it to the battery again for a test to see if it acts the same? These are what i have in my collection.
